Christchurch, Mar 15: Several feared dead after gunshots were reported near the Al Noor mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand, as police warn of a "critical incident". The incident took place around 1.45pm local time when the team had gone to pray when the incident took place.
There are reports that the man who identified himself as Brenton Tarrant, 28, of Australia filmed self just before live streaming mass shooting at mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Witnesses told local media there were several casualties inside the building. Police have warned people to avoid the area.
A gunman reportedly opened fire at the mosque, with the former president of the Muslim Association of Canterbury Mohammed Jama saying a man with a gun went into the mosque about 1.40pm on Friday.
He saw about four people injured and two people lying on the ground. He did not know if they were alive or dead.
Christchurch hospital and all of the city's schools have been placed on lockdown.
It has been learnt that the Bangladesh cricket team were at the Hagley Park mosque when the incident occurred and escaped from the mosque
