Volkswagen Beetle Production Ends — All Good Things Come To An End
DriveSpark | 11th Jul, 2019 10:13 AM

The very last Volkswagen Beetle has just been produced. The Volkswagen Beetle that was driven off the VW production line in Puebla, Mexico is now an icon as it is the very last unit of the legendary hatchback.

The vehicle in question will be displayed at a Museum in the city of Puebla. The Volkswagen Beetle is one of the most iconic cars the world has ever seen. Its history can be traced back to April 1934 when Adolf Hitler order Ferdinand Porsche to develop a car for the people.

What Hitler basically asked was for a Volkswagen which in German is literally 'people's car.' Design and development began and by 1938, the car was ready for production. Soon, most of Germany was driving around in a Volkswagen. Volkswagen Beetles were also used in World War II by the Germans.

Soon after the war ended, the VW Beetle was shipped overseas and people all around the world loved the little hatchback. It soon became the most-produced car in the world and till this day is one of the top-five most produced cars in the world with over 2.3 crore VW Beetles produced.

The older version of the hatchback gave way to newer, modern ones. However, the basic design of the car is decades old and even the modern ones weren't selling well for Volkswagen. The modernised VW Beetle came with features like a touchscreen infotainment system, airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, etc.

It also came with modern, more powerful liquid-cooled engines. However, it was evident that the world had moved on from the Beetle brand. In the face of the electric vehicle revolution, Volkswagen decided to stop producing the Beetle.

Volkswagen launched a final edition of the Beetle and announced that only 5,961 units of it would be produced. 5,960 units have already rolled out of the production line and now the last one has. A ceremony will be held in Puebla, Mexico on 10 July, 2019 after which the final model will be put on display in a museum.

Thoughts On Volkswagen Beetle Production Ends & Final Model Becomes Museum Display

The Volkswagen Beetle is nothing short of a legend. The car also has several heritage clubs in its name wherein owners of older Beetles celebrate the car. Now though, it would be an emotional goodbye for the VW Beetle. No other car can replace the iconic Bug's design, yet it was time for it to go.
