The dress code for truck drivers is said to have been part of the Motor Vehicles Act since 1939. With its first amendment in 1989, a fine of Rs 500 was implemented. However, this fine was never properly enforced in the state, allowing truck drivers to drive around the state while wearing comfy clothing including lungi and vests.

The new Motor Vehicles Act has been implemented across most states in India from the 1st September. Officials have also been asked to enforce the new rules more strictly, which has resulted in the collection of huge sums of fines since the implementation.

Thoughts On Truck Drivers Being Fined For Wearing Lungi & Baniyan While Driving

The new Motor Vehicles Act 2019 has been implemented in India from the 1st September. The amendments bring in a number of strict fines, violation penalties and enforcement in the country, all aimed to improve road safety in India. It will be interesting to see whether this new dress code rule for truck drivers will be carried forward to the rest of the country anytime soon.

Truck drivers in Uttar Pradesh will now have to pay a fine of up to Rs 2,000 if found wearing lungi and baniyan while driving. According to the new Motor Vehicles Act, all truck drivers in the state will have to obey the strict dress code, which has been in existence, but not enforced.
