Milk Becomes Costlier Than Petrol In Pakistan
Good Returns | 11th Sep, 2019 12:10 PM

As per Pakistani media reports, price of milk in the country had spiked higher than that of petrol and diesel on the occasion of Muharram. A litre of milk in Karachi and Sindh Province was priced as high as Rs 140 per litre, on Tuesday, on account of an increase in demand.

At the time of writing this article, one Pakistani rupee equalled 0.46 Indian rupee.

Petrol and diesel in the country are being sold at a cheaper rate, that is at Rs 113 and Rs 91 per litre, respectively.

Stalls (Sabeels) are set in different parts of the city to offer milk, juices and cold water to the participants of processions held on Muharram. An increase in demand for milk is seen during the occasion causing a surge in price. Milk was being sold for Rs 120 to Rs 140 per litre.

Meanwhile, the official price of milk set by the Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shallwani was Rs 94/litre. The commissioner is responsible to control price rise but reportedly did nothing, according to the media.
