  • 1. Beware of the weather

Be it winter or summer destinations, sometimes even the most spectacular sights may not spare you from nature's wrath. Don't be ill-prepared; keep in mind to do enough research about the area you are camping at. Whether it is by the river, on a mountain or by the beach, beware of the weather conditions. So, make your adventure more about comfort and less about battling the cold.

  • 2. Purchase a tent that is big enough

Never compromise on space and comfort. When choosing a tent, always go for a bigger size. Yes! Most of the times, camping involves just a couple of people. So, a small tent would be of good help. However, if you are travelling with a large group, it is important to have a large tent. And a majority of tents fit well in a car and the backpack, so the size and weight would not be the problem.

  • 3. Follow campsite rules

Camping is an excellent escapade from the daily grind. Nonetheless, don't try to own the campsite instead try to follow some campsite rules. And if you are surrounded by other campers, make sure to be a good neighbour. Respect quiet hours, use low lights, clean your space before you leave and if you have a pet, put it on a leash. These are a few basic campsite etiquettes that every first-time camper should follow.

  • 4. Create a food menu

Make sure you decide on a meal menu. It is important to put enough thought into meal planning because it's not going to be easy to find food in and around campsites. So, go food shopping a day or two before your camping trip. Diet can alter one's mind, so don't let food take control of your camping experience. Carry enough food to satisfy your hunger.

  • 5. Carry sufficient clothes

To embrace nature, most rookies, choose the wrong attire or no attire at all. With bugs, mud and mosquitoes, some camp sites can be a bit challenging. So always be prepared. Pay heed to weather conditions and protect your skin from cold, heat or hungry bugs. There is no camping attire as such but always make sure to cover your body with a good set of clothes.

  • 6. Try camping close to home

Every campsite is different, depending on the weather, utilities, and the crowd. So, it is always useful to camp close to home at least for the first few trips. You may run out of food or be overwhelmed by weather conditions, so when you face such challenges, you have an option to head back home. So, be a smart camper; know your limitations and strength before you go on a full-fledged camping venture.

  • 7. Make a checklist

Make a list of all camping items like a tool & repair kit, kitchen equipment, clothes, footwear, medications and personal items. It will come in handy when you have to replace something.
